DOVER, N.H. (AP) - Two people have died after their car struck a utility pole at an intersection and the vehicle became engulfed in flames, police in Dover said Thursday.

Police found the car in flames and the two people dead at the scene at about 12:25 a.m., Fosters Daily Democrat reported. Their identities were withheld pending notification of family.

The crash happened in front of Jason Alquist’s house. He said his neighbor’s mailbox, a tree and a second utility pole also was hit.

“We typically get two to three accidents along here a year, but this is the first fatal one I’ve seen,” he said “I looked out the window, and then all sudden as soon as they hit the tree, it just exploded and the car just blew apart,” he said. “There was no way to recognize if it was a truck or car, the whole thing was just engulfed in flames.”
