LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The building of a Louisville nonprofit that supports sex trafficking victims in Kentucky was struck with at least 25 bullets on New Years Eve, organizers said.
Organizers with Free2Hope said the bullets hit the organization’s drop-in-center in the city’s Portland neighborhood.
Amy Leenerts, who runs the organization, said no one was injured. She believes the damage was caused by someone who fired to celebrate the new year, the Courier Journal reported.
“Why do people think this is a great time to shoot their guns?” organizers said Saturday in a Facebook post.
“We really did not need this right now,” they wrote.
Leenerts said she has filed a report with police. The city’s police department did not immediately respond to a request for comment by the newspaper.
Injuries connected to celebratory gunfire have been reported in other cities during the holidays.
