CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Some West Virginia homes and businesses that have been without power for more than a week aren’t expected to have their service restored until next Tuesday, Appalachian Power said.

About 48,000 customers remained without electricity in southern West Virginia due to ice storms on Feb. 11 and on Monday. The utility said on its website that about 17,000 customers in Cabell County, or 33% of the county’s total customers, were without service Friday. Nearly 15,000 customers, or 63%, were out in Wayne County.

Appalachian Power said three of four substations in the area that were knocked out of service were expected to be repaired by Friday.

Service should be restored to most customers without power by Monday in Jackson, Lincoln, Mason and Putnam counties, and by Tuesday in Cabell and Wayne counties, the utility said.
