LEESVILLE, La. (AP) - A Louisiana man is in custody for allegedly beating his parents to death, authorities said.
Robert Lombardo, 46, of Leesville, faces two counts of second-degree murder after deputies discovered the bodies of his father and stepmother in their Vernon Parish residence on Monday.
A family member called deputies asking them to do a welfare check at the couple’s home in the Jeane Chapel Trailer Park after the caller said Robert Lombardo had contacted the caller and “stated that he had beaten his parents to death,” the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
Sheriff Sam Craft, The American Press reported, said deputies found the home’s door unsecured and went inside. Deputies then found 83-year-old Joseph Lombardo and 60-year-old Rita Lombardo, both dead, Craft said.
Lombardo was arrested early Tuesday at a home in Evans, authorities said. Craft said Lombardo was taken into custody without incident and praised deputies and detectives for their swift work.
“This was a difficult scene to process, but deputies did good work at securing the scene and detectives were quick to put their heads together and locate the suspect using the tools available to them,” Craft said.
When questioned, Lombardo told detectives he and the victims had been in a “domestic disturbance” prior to him committing the murders, Craft said.
Lombardo also said the murders took place two to three days prior to his arrest.
Lombardo is being held at the Vernon Parish Jail. Bond has not been set. It was unknown if he has an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
