MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Health Commissioner Dr. Mark Levine is asking Vermonters to do their part to prevent prescription drug misuse by getting rid of unwanted or expired medications during the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday.
“More than half of the people who misuse prescription medication get it from a friend or relative, often straight out of the medicine cabinet,” Levine said during the governor’s twice-weekly virus briefing. “If you no longer need your medication, please do your part and dispose of it safely.”
The event is taking place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at over 55 locations around Vermont, according the U.S. attorney’s office.
More information about disposal locations are available online on the Health Department’s website.
Vermonters may also request drug mail-back envelopes from the Health Department to get rid of prescription drugs anytime of the year.
For those struggling with with substance use, support and referral services are available online at VTHelplink.org, Levine said.
