GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Two South Carolina men and a woman face charges in the 2014 shooting death of a 19-year-old man who was once a roommate of two of the suspects, law enforcement confirmed Tuesday.
Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis said Kris Capatino, 47, of Easley; Destany Fields, 26, of Greenville; and Rahiem Griffin, 28, of Easley, were arrested Thursday in the death of Marquail Hellams, whose bullet-riddled body was found Jan. 31, 2014, news outlets reported.
Capatino and Fields face charges of murder and criminal conspiracy. Griffin was charged with murder, criminal conspiracy and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the sheriff’s . All three are being held without bond at the Greenville County Detention Center. It was unknown if any of them have attorneys who could speak for them.
Hellams’ body was found on a gravel path in Piedmont.
Lewis said CrimeStoppers received a tip that helped investigators locate a vehicle in Pickens County that was allegedly used during the murder. After further investigation, officers learned Griffin, Fields and the victim were roommates and went to meet with Capatino on Jan. 31, 2014.
The sheriff’s office said all four got into Capatino’s vehicle and he drove them to a secluded area, where Hellams was shot multiple times outside of the vehicle. Investigators believe there were previous issues between Hellams and his roommates, which sparked the murder.
Lewis also said Hellams thought they were going to make a narcotics purchase.
