ABC is taking a get-out-the-vote message to prime-time. The network announced Wednesday that it will air “VOMO: Vote or Miss Out” on Sept. 14, billing the special as a “one-night-only non-partisan event” meant to encourage electoral participation in the presidential election.
The host is comedian Kevin Hart, who will be joined by an eclectic cast that includes his fellow comics, along with musicians, and yes, some politicians.
“The special will also feature prominent political figures across party lines including Michelle Obama, former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA), Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, Ann Romney and Cindy McCain, among others,” the network said.
ABC is still assembling the cast, but among the 20-plus guests so far: Tim Allen, Jay Leno, Will Ferrell, Tiffany Haddish, Charlamagne Tha God, Jon Hamm, Scarlett Johansson plus music acts 2 Chainz and Lil Baby.
The one-hour special will also feature tutorials in the voting process.
“We have a societal responsibility to participate in our country’s democracy,” said executive producer Tom Werner.
“We hope that we can create an event that will speak to all generations, young and old, in a way that shows them that by engaging in the political process, we have an exceptional opportunity to have our voices and values reflected at every level of government,” noted Matthew Segal, co-founder of ATTN:, a media company which originated the idea of the show.
