BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The high school campus that serves Vermont’s largest city is going to remain closed to in-person learning for at least the fall semester - and it has nothing to do with the coronavirus pandemic.
In a Wednesday message, Burlington School District Superintendent Tom Flanagan says air quality tests during a renovation project revealed elevated levels of polychlorinated biphenyls inside the technical center building.
Students had been splitting their time between in-person and remote learning. Flanagan says classes will continue online and the school will work to identify new spaces for in-person learning.
Flanagan’s note says that in the best case scenario, the cleanup would take at least four months and could be significantly longer.
