GRANBY, Conn. (AP) - More than 4,500 Connecticut homes and businesses remained without power Thursday morning in the wake of a windy weather system that knocked down trees and wires.

Outages were down from nearly 27,000 just after the storm system moved through late Wednesday afternoon and evening. An incoming cold front brought rain and wind gusts of more than 60 mph (97 kph), according to the National Weather Service.

Northern parts of the state were hardest hit. Eversource on Thursday reported more than 500 remaining outages in Granby, more than 400 in Woodstock, more than 380 in Thompson and more than 300 in Putnam and Pomfret. The shoreline town of Guilford had 375 outages.

Thompson closed all schools Thursday because many roads were blocked by fallen trees and wires, officials said.
