KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. (AP) - A Tennessee sheriff’s deputy fatally shot an armed man while responding to a domestic-related call, authorities said.

The Cheatham County Sheriff’s deputy responded Sunday night to a home in Kingston Springs and found resident Terry David Fox, 58, on the front porch with a handgun, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a statement.

According to initial reports, the deputy told Fox several times to drop the gun, but Fox did not, the bureau said. The situation escalated for reason still under investigation and the deputy shot Fox, the statement said.

Fox died at the scene. The deputy was not injured.

Agents with the bureau were continuing Monday to collect evidence in the shooting and will turn over findings to the local prosecutor to review.

No further information was immediately released.
