SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A missing teenager was found alive in Utah on Saturday after he spent the night in freezing temperatures in a remote hiking area north of St. George, authorities said.

The Washington County sheriff’s office said Britton Kelsey, 15, was treated for symptoms of hypothermia after he was found near the Red Mountain Trail, The Spectrum reported.

Family members first reported Kelsey missing on Friday around 3 p.m. after he became separated from two hiking groups.

Deputies sent two helicopters to search for the teenager on Friday. Efforts were called off around midnight and resumed Saturday morning, authorities said. Temperatures dropped into the 20s in the area overnight and Kelsey was reportedly wearing shorts and had only a sweatshirt to combat the weather.

Rescue crews continued the search Saturday where a trail of shoeprints led authorities to the teen, authorities said. Kelsey was reunited with family and treated by medical personnel.
