WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts man has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison for a 2013 shooting in Great Brook Valley.

Alexis Grajales-Pagan, 26, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter Monday in Worcester Superior Court for the death of Igor Busanet Jr., 28, with nearly 7 years of time already served, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported. Busanet was shot and killed during a family cookout on July 21, 2013.

Assistant District Attorney Sarah Richardson said Busanet and Grajales got into an altercation and Busanet tried to hit Grajales.

“The victim was shot once in the abdomen. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead a few hours later,” Richardson said. “The shell casings from the homicide scene matched shell casings from another crime scene that Grajales since had pled guilty to.”

Grajales previously pleaded not guilty to other charges including murder and carrying a firearm without a license.

Defense attorney Randall Power recommended the plea agreement that includes the time served from the day Grajales was taken into custody on Aug. 26, 2013. Grajales has 2 years and nearly 10 months left to serve.
