LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A man who allegedly broke into a Lincoln home and confronted the homeowner died after being handcuffed by officers.

Brandon D. Ziemelis, 38, of Lincoln, died Monday afternoon at a hospital where he was taken after suffering a medical problem, officer Erin Spilker said.

Police were called after several neighbors reported that Ziemelis was stumbling through several yards. He had entered a home and was fighting with the homeowner when officers arrived, Spilker said.

The 40-year-old homeowner was holding Ziemelis down on the basement floor when officers arrived.

Ziemelis experienced the medical problem as officers started to handcuff him, Spilker said. The officers and emergency responders applied CPR before Ziemelis was taken to a hospital.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of his death, The Lincoln Journal Star reported.
