CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - An employee working in Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak’s Carson City office tested positive for COVID-19, sending staff members who came into close contact home to work remotely for the second time in a month.

The staff member, who last worked in the governor’s office on Thursday, received a rapid test over the weekend after developing virus symptoms, Sisolak’s spokeswoman Meghin Delaney said in a press release on Monday. The staff member’s identity was not disclosed.

The origin of the case remains under investigation, but health officials have already determined that Sisolak wasn’t in close contact with the staff member. The Democratic governor is tested routinely and, after the employee’s result came back positive, he tested negative for the virus on Monday.

The positive test marks the second time the coronavirus has struck Sisolak’s office. Caleb Cage, his COVID-19 response director, tested positive for the virus in early October. It comes as cases surge in Carson City and northern Nevada, where case counts and positivity rates have spiked throughout the fall.

Nevada officials have flagged Carson City as “high risk” and local officials are slated to appear before a state reopening task force on Thursday.
