HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A north Alabama police officer was justified in a fatal shooting last month, Madison County District Attorney Rob Broussard said.
Broussard released a statement Wednesday saying his office’s investigation into the death of Alberto Rivas, 57, was being closed without charges, WHNT-TV reported.
Rivas was shot to death on Oct. 16 as officers responded to a 911 call at a house.
Officers saw the man with a gun through a storm door, and he then walked out pointing the gun at an officer, the statement said. Another officer fired three times, shooting Rivas.
Authorities have not released the name of the officer who killed Rivas, who was described by a friend as an Air Force veteran who worked in construction at Redstone Arsenal.
