Tiger Woods shoots a septuple bogey on 12 at Masters

Tiger Woods entered Championship Sunday at the Masters with an outside chance of challenging for another green jacket. It would have taken some of the best golf of his career, coupled with a collapse from the leaders, for his 5-under par through three rounds to compete with Dustin Johnson and others.

But by the time Woods hit the par-3 12th hole, any lingering hope vanished. He went from 3 under to 4 over, producing a septuple bogey — scoring a 10 on the hole.

It began with his first tee shot, landing short and rolling back into the water. That two-stroke penalty wouldn’t be the first miscue. His second shot also landed in the water, so he launched his third shot over the green and into the bunker.

Then Woods hit his fourth shot out of the sand pit and into the water … again. Given a drop ball back into the bunker, he finds the green, but his ensuing putt stopped just shy of the hole. He tapped in — mercifully — to finish the 12th with a septuple bogey.

Woods won at Augusta National last year, but any chance this time around took a dip when his ball found water three times on the 12th. According to Golf Channel, his 10 on No. 12 was his highest score on any hole during his PGA Tour career.
