ATLANTA (AP) - An Atlanta police officer was placed on administrative leave after being accused of assaulting his girlfriend and her dog, news outlets reported Thursday.

Officer Larry Williams was placed on leave while an investigation into the accusation continues, news outlets quoted authorities as saying.

The victim told police she and Williams had been living together for six months.

Williams was charged with battery related to family violence and cruelty to animals in connection with a reported assault on May 18. Details were not immediately released.

He was released from jail on bond. It’s unclear whether Williams had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.

Williams was hired in March 2015 and had no history of disciplinary actions, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported citing the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council.
