RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - A man involved in a deadly shootout with police killed his cousin before officers killed him, Vermont State Police confirmed Tuesday.

Nick Louras was found dead of gunshot wounds off a route in Salisbury in October shortly after a police shootout left his cousin, Christopher Louras, dead, officials said.

Investigators found Nick Louras, 34, after Christopher Louras, 33, shot through the front door of the Rutland City Police Department on October 8.

Christopher Louras’ vehicle was spotted by an off-duty officer soon after and a police chase ensued through the Rutland City Plaza.

Officials said the suspect shot out the window at police. The chase ended when Louras’ car became stuck in front of an Amtrak station. He then got out of the vehicle with a rifle and four officers fired their weapons at him.

The suspect was shot nine times and died at a nearby hospital, police said.

An investigation into the shooting concluded that all officers involved acted appropriately.

Officials had always suspected that Christopher Louras had killed his cousin but now, they say lab tests have confirmed it.
