Roger Mayweather, uncle of Floyd Mayweather and a world-champion fighter in his own right, has died after years of declining health. He was 58.

TMZ reported Tuesday afternoon that the elder Mayweather’s death was confirmed by “Floyd’s camp.”

Roger Mayweather won world titles in the 1980s in two weight divisions, super featherweight (130 pounds) and light welterweight (140).

But it was as the trainer of his nephew, whom some consider the greatest pound-for-pound boxer ever, for which Roger Mayweather was best known in recent years.

There was no cause of death immediately reported.

Mayweather once went missing and had to be found by law enforcement, and his nephew in 2015 blamed boxing for his trainer’s poor health.

“My uncle Roger Mayweather has lost a lot of memory from the sport of boxing,” Floyd Mayweather said. “He’s only in his 50s but it seems like he’s an old man in his 80s.”
