The Washington Redskins agreed to sign former Atlanta Falcons guard Wes Schweitzer to a three-year, $13.5 million deal Monday to replace starter Ereck Flowers, reports said.
Schweitzer, a former sixth-round pick in 2016, started 36 of 46 games he played for Atlanta. The 26-year-old played 468 of his 697 snaps last season at left guard and also has experience at the two other interior positions. According to Pro Football Focus, Schweitzer gave up two sacks, eight quarterback hits, 18 hurries and 28 pressures in 2019.
The Redskins needed interior help after Flowers left Washington to sign a three-year, $30 million contract with the Miami Dolphins.
Flowers, 25, was a pleasant surprise for Washington, given the former first-round bust transitioned from tackle to guard. Flowers’ signing (one-year, $4 million) was universally panned at the time.
In addition to Schweitzer, the Redskins have Wes Martin and Ross Pierschbacher — two 2019 draft picks — to compete at left guard.
The Redskins also re-signed linebacker Jon Bostic on Monday, giving the 28-year-old journeyman a two-year, $6.6 million deal.
