MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The lone finalist for the University of Wisconsin System’s president position is set to undergo a grueling day of interviews and meetings Tuesday.

University of Alaska System President Jim Johnsen is scheduled to start his day with a meeting with the UW System’s presidential search committee. From there he’ll face questions from campus stakeholders. He’ll end the day with a meeting with the full Board of Regents.

The search committee is expected to make a formal hiring recommendation to the regents in the coming days.

Johnsen is the only finalist vying to replace outgoing UW System President Ray Cross, who announced in October he plans to retire as soon as a successor can be found. The search committee said other would-be finalists all withdrew from the running out of concerns that if they were identified as finalists for the Wisconsin job they would lose the clout to fight the coronavirus in their current positions.
