SMITHFIELD, R.I. (AP) - The victim of a three-vehicle crash involving a decommissioned five-ton military truck in Rhode Island over the weekend has been identified by police as a Massachusetts man.
John McKenzie, 68, of Watertown, Massachusetts, was killed in the crash at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday on U.S. Route 44 in Smithfield, police said in a statement Monday.
A passenger in McKenzie’s vehicle, Carol Riggenbach, 70, of Watertown, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.
The truck, being driven by a Pascoag man, rear-ended a westbound car driven by a Woodstock, Connecticut woman, police said.
The truck veered into the oncoming travel lane and crashed into McKenzie’s eastbound car, police said.
The crash remains under investigation.
