FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) _ Community Health Systems Inc. (CYH) on Tuesday reported second-quarter net income of $70 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.
The Franklin, Tennessee-based company said it had net income of 61 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for asset impairment costs and non-recurring costs, were 85 cents per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of $1.22 per share.
The operator of accute care hospitals posted revenue of $2.52 billion in the period, which fell short of Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.53 billion.
In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, the company’s shares hit $4.12. A year ago, they were trading at $2.12.
