FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - Coronavirus has shifted plans to bring air service to the Four Corners region.
Farmington was in negotiations with SkyWest Airlines for regional service between Denver, city spokeswoman Georgette Allen said. But the city announced Monday that air service will be delayed at least until next spring because of travel concerns.
“The risk of trying to establish and grow air service at Four Corners Regional Airport during this unprecedented, uncertain time would not be in the best interest of our community or our airline partners,” said airport manager Mike Lewis.
The airport hasn’t had commercial service since November 2017. Crews began upgrading the runway last September to meet federal guidelines for commercial service, using a $3.45 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration. The work was completed in May.
