LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A Lincoln attorney accused of theft and abuse of a vulnerable adult is facing another, similar accusation.
Christine Vanderford has pleaded not guilty in the first case and is awaiting trial. Prosecutors have said Vanderford took more than $60,000 without authorization from a developmentally disabled woman for whom she’d been appointed guardian.
In the new case, police said Vanderford held a power of attorney for a relative but hadn’t paid the woman’s nursing home bill of $53,000.
Police said that between May 2014 and Aug. 31, 2018, Vanderford took nearly $37,000 from the woman. The Lincoln Journal Star reported that Vanderford put less than $11,700 toward the woman’s care despite receiving $93,000 over the same period.
Vanderford didn’t immediately return a call Friday from The Associated Press.
