RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina man wa s sentenced to three years in prison for charges related to firing a gun during a domestic dispute.
A news release from the Raleigh-based U.S. Attorney’s Office said that 32-year-old Nicholas Elliott of Tyner received the sentence Thursday on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He had pleaded guilty to the charge in November.
Authorities say that in June 2019 Elliott’s ex-girlfriend called 911 to say that he had fired a gun at her. She later told deputies that she’d had a physical altercation with him and she ran out into the woods after he grabbed a gun.
The news release said that she told authorities he had fired multiple times in her direction. Deputies said they found a gun matching the description and spent shell casings in the man’s bedroom.
Prosecutors say that Elliott had three prior state convictions for assault on a female, as well as a felony drug conviction that prohibited him from having a gun.
An attorney for Elliott didn’t immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
