PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island’s legislative leaders are meeting with business executives to discuss the state’s economy and their priorities.
The Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual legislative luncheon at noon Wednesday at the Rhode Island Convention Center.
Hundreds of business leaders are expected to attend. Democratic House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello and Senate President Dominick Ruggerio plan to address the group and answer questions about issues facing the business community, along with both the House and Senate majority and minority leaders.
Mattiello has said his top concern and priority is always the state budget - ensuring it’s a pro-jobs, pro-economy, balanced spending plan.
Ruggerio wants to see a shift at the education department so it’s more policy focused. He has said the Senate will also prioritize legislation to address rising costs of prescription drugs and look for ways to reduce barriers to building more housing in the state.
Laurie White, the chamber’s president, and Marc Crisafulli, executive vice president of Twin River Worldwide Holdings, are also scheduled to give remarks.
