YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - An addiction treatment center in Washington state has received an $800,000 grant to fund child care expansion for residents on campus and for members in the southern community.
Triumph Treatment Services in Yakima provides care to residents and families experiencing substance use disorders, homelessness and poverty and provides support to their children, Yakima Herald-Republic reported Tuesday.
The agency also provides behavioral health services and therapeutic child care where children suffering from depression, mental health issues and trauma can receive specialized education and developmental assessment.
The grant would allow the center to increase capacity from 25 to 43, agency officials said. The additional spots will be open to children of community members who qualify for the program, while 25 spots will remain reserved for the program’s families.
“Too many working parents in Washington are either paying more than they can afford or are struggling to find quality child care and preschool in their community,” Washington Department of Commerce Director Lisa Brown said. “These grants are a crucial step toward achieving a child care system that works better for all Washington families.”
Two other child care centers in Yakima also received grants for expansion, the Herald-Republic reported. Wonder Kids LLC received about $72,000 for 20 more spaces and Bertha’s Day Care received $350,000 for 38 spaces.
