Kendall Fuller and Bashaud Breeland, former Redskins, come up big for Chiefs in Super Bowl

Three years ago, cornerbacks Bashaud Breeland and Kendall Fuller were starting for the Washington Redskins.

On Sunday, they became Super Bowl champions — and had game-changing interceptions to boot.

Fuller grabbed the game-sealing interception late in the fourth quarter of the Kansas City Chiefs’ 31-20 victory against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The 24-year-old played two seasons for the Redskins before he was traded along with a third-round pick for Alex Smith in 2018.

As for Breeland, the 28-year-old picked off 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in the second quarter. The turnover helped the Chiefs take a 10-3 lead.

Breeland joined the Chiefs as a free agent in 2019 after one year on the Green Bay Packers. The former fourth-rounder spent the first four years of his career with the Redskins, starting 58 games. The Redskins chose not to re-sign him in 2018.
