A state board has revoked the law enforcement certification of a former Clark County constable convicted of a misdemeanor fraud charge involving county money.
The Peace Officer Standards and Training commission unanimously revoked Earl Mitchell’s police powers Wednesday night because of his 2019 conviction, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
Mitchell entered an Alford plea to the misdemeanor charge in July after being indicted in 2018 on four felony theft charges and one charge of fraudulent appropriation of property by a public officer.
A defendant using an Alford plea doesn’t admit wrongdoing but acknowledges that prosecutors likely could prove their case.
Mitchell agreed to pay back more than $80,000 that prosecutors contend he stole from the county while constable.
Mitchell was constable for the Henderson area. He didn’t run for re-election in 2018.
