LINCOLN, Mont. (AP) - Seeley Lake musher Jessie Royer won the 2000 Race to the Sky sled dog race, giving her five wins since she was the youngest to win the race in 1994, at age 17.
Royer and 11 dogs crossed the finish line near Lincoln at 9:22 p.m. Monday, race officials said. The 300-mile (483-kilometer) race began Saturday afternoon.
Royer’s first Race to the Sky win came on a 500-mile (805-kilometer) course. Her wins in 2015, 2016 and 2018 were 300-mile races. Royer didn’t compete in the Race to the Sky in 2017 and 2019 because she ran the Yukon Quest.
Royer is scheduled to compete in the nearly 1,000-mile (1,600-kilometer) Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race next month. She finished third last year.
Josi Thyr of Seeley Lake, who has been working at Royer’s kennel this winter, won the 100-mile (161-kilometer) Race to the Sky early Sunday.
