TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - A man who allegedly attacked a Shawnee County corrections officer in 2019 will go to trial in June, Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay said.
Ray Anthony Miles, 56, is scheduled for trial beginning June 9 on first-degree attempted murder, aggravated battery and battery against a corrections office, Kagay said Monday, The Topeka Capital-Journal reported.
Prosecutors allege Miles attacked the female corrections officer on July 31, 2019, and tried to stab her several times with a pen before he was restrained by other officers. The officer was treated and released for injuries to her face and head.
Miles has been in jail since Nov. 16, 2018 serving the rest of a misdemeanor sentence related to a 2012 attack at WIBW-TV.
Miles was convicted in November 2012 on several felonies and misdemeanors after a confrontation at WIBW-TV, where he stabbed, kicked, bit and punched four TV station staffers.
He was sentenced to seven years and four months in prison, with an additional year in the Shawnee County Jail after he completed the prison sentence.
