RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Internet outages caused by a cut fiber line have shut down Division of Motor Vehicles offices across portions of eastern and central North Carolina, officials said.

The line was cut near Benson, affecting offices from areas surrounding Fayetteville, Wilmington and south of Raleigh, news outlets report, citing the N.C. Department of Transportation.

The service interruption is also affecting some DMV online driver license and vehicle registration services, according to NCDOT.

The DMV experienced outages last Friday, when they said a power outage in the Raleigh area was impacting the N.C. Department of Revenue servers, causing an interruption of some services at the NCDMV agencies across the state. Many offices closed Friday as a result.

Department of Revenue officials said the power outage problem stemmed from servers used to process vehicle tax payments, which meant the DMV couldn’t provide new license plates or renewals involving a change of address.
