PHOENIX (AP) - Maricopa County Attorney Allister Adel is out of the hospital nearly two months after suffering a brain injury on Election Day.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office said in a statement Thursday that Adel was back home but had signed her oath of office.
Adel hit her head after a fall at her home on Nov. 3. Metro Phoenix’s chief prosecutor underwent emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from bleeding on her brain. She was transferred to Barrow Neurological Institute two days later.
In the statement, her staff said she remains focused on her recovery but looks forward to seeing colleagues in the new year.
Adel, a Republican, was appointed to fill a county attorney vacancy in 2019. She defeated Democratic challenger Julie Gunnigle in the election.
Her chief staff members have been overseeing the office’s daily operations. The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office is one of the largest prosecution agencies in the nation.
