MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Heavy rains starting Thursday and lasting into Christmas Day could produce flooding in parts of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, the National Weather says.
The forecast for the region calls for rising temperatures and heavy rain beginning late Thursday and lasting into Christmas Day.
Heavy winds are also forecast for parts of the region. Vermont Emergency Management is urging people to prepare for power outages.
The flood watch says some areas could receive up to 3 inches of rain or more by the end of Friday. The unseasonably warm temperatures could release an additional 1 to 2 inches of water.
Water levels in some rivers are expected to exceed flood level. Flooding is also possible in low-lying areas and areas with poor drainage.
