GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Glendale police say an officer responding to a burglary alarm fatally shot a man wielding a metal bar during an encounter in a residential area Tuesday.

The responding officer located a man in a home’s backyard and confronted him in a nearby street at around 4:30 a.m., the Police Department said in a statement.

The man who was holding the metal bar in his hand and moved toward the officer when the officer fired his gun, the statement said.



The man was identified as 45-year-old Christopher Cuevas. Glendale police did not identify the officer but said he’s been on the force for more than two years. The officer was placed on standard administrative leave, the statement said.
