Keyontae Johnson, the Florida basketball star who collapsed on the court Dec. 12, will be released from the hospital Tuesday, his family announced.

Johnson has been in the hospital for 10 days. He was treated on the court once he collapsed early in the Gators’ game against Florida State before he was taken to Tallahassee Memorial hospital. His condition was initially described as critical but stable, and his grandfather told USA TODAY he had been placed in a medically induced coma.

Over the past 10 days, his condition has steadily improved. Johnson was transported to the University of Florida’s hospital in Gainesville. He began communicating and spoke with his coach and teammates. On Friday, Johnson released a video from the hospital.

“First and foremost, I’d like to thank God. I know y’all have been sending your prayers out the last few weeks, and me and my parents are very grateful for the prayers going out,” Johnson said in the video. “To all the doctors and medical staff at Tallahassee Memorial and UF Shands, I just want to say thank you for all the support y’all gave me — especially to the lady that was in the gym at Florida State.

“To my Gator Nation and the UF athletic family, I just want to thank you for all the prayers that you gave onto me. Go Gators.”

Now, Johnson will be released from the hospital. His family said in a statement the “process to draw definitive conclusions continues” as to what Johnson’s ailment was. Johnson’s family said they will continue to share updates regarding Johnson’s condition as well as any information that could help others.

“Today is a great day!” the statement read. “… We continue to be amazed at the pace of his recovery and look forward to spending Christmas together as a family.”
