BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - A project to beautify Interstate 65 exits in Bowling Green will begin next week.

Initial landscaping will begin Dec. 7 at exits 22, 26 and 28, but “gateway” exits 20 and 30 will get more extensive work at a later date, Operation Pride Chairman Johnny Webb told the Bowling Green Daily News.

Webb, a former mayor of Bowling Green, has led efforts to beautify the exits as way to attract more travelers to stop in the southern Kentucky city.

Some improvements will include planting shade trees and flowering trees along with evergreens and flowers.

The project is expected to cost more than $2 million, and most of that has been raised, Webb said.

“We have 22 million vehicles per year going up and down I-65. If we can just pull a few more off the highway to eat at our restaurants and visit our attractions, it will be a win for the city and county,” he said.
