PLAINFIELD, Vt. (AP) - Vermonters are rallying to raise $50,000 to save Goddard College’s radio station WGDR-FM.

Kris Gruen, the station’s director, said the station has been removed from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s community-service grant program that provided $70,000 to the station, the Burlington Free Press reported.

WGDR was removed from the program after it failed to raise the $275,000 required to continue to receive funding.

Goddard is giving the station to Central Vermont Community Radio, which plans to keep local and national programming on the air.

Gruen said the station has the funding to operate through the end of the year but requires these funds to operate through the four-month transfer of ownership.

“The station’s major donors are already organizing an extremely generous match to ensure that our goal is within reach,” Gruen said.
