PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island General Treasurer Seth Magaziner is holding a special ceremony to honor seven state residents and organizations who have been strong partners with his office in supporting increased economic opportunity for all Rhode Islanders.
The first Distinguished Service Awards are scheduled for Wednesday, the office said in a statement.
The recipients are state Sen. Harold Metts, for his service in reforming student loans, payday lending and other high cost financial services; state Sen. James Seveney and state Rep. Julie Casimiro for their support of the treasurer’s unclaimed property program; and Navigant Credit Union for its support of small businesses through the BankLocal program.
Also: the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence for its partnership with the Crime Victims Compensation Fund; the city of East Providence for its leadership on school construction and green infrastructure; and Nilton Cardenas, accepting on behalf of Jorge Cardenas, for support of students in the CollegeBound program.
