LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A 38-year-old woman was accused of committing a hate crime after telling a man of Middle Eastern descent that he couldn’t watch people racing in the street because he wasn’t a white American, Lincoln police said.

Officer Erin Spilker said a 23-year-old man suffered “significant” injuries when he was beaten by a group of men in July in Lincoln.

He told police a woman confronted him as he sat in his car, then came back with several men, who kicked and punched him, Spilker said.

The woman, who was heard making “derogatory and hateful” comments about the man’s race, was cited this week for assault and hate intimidation, The Lincoln Journal Star reported.

The victim was cited for disturbing the peace because video showed he got out of his car to fight, police said.

Two other men were cited with disturbing the peace by fighting, and one of them was cited for vandalism.
