LINCOLNTON, N.C. (AP) - A man was shot to death and two deputies were wounded while they tried to serve warrants on the victim, a North Carolina sheriff’s office said Monday.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that deputies responding to a domestic disturbance learned that a man involved in the reported incident had four outstanding warrants.
When deputies returned to the site of the incident, the man retreated to a building on his property and began firing a shotgun at the deputies, who were hit with pellets. The deputies returned fire and killed the man, whose identity hasn’t been released, the sheriff’s office said.
One deputy was taken to the hospital after he was hit in the face by shotgun pellets, while a second deputy was struck in the arm by shotgun pellets and was also treated at an area hospital.
The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident, the sheriff’s office said.
