PHOENIX (AP) - A Glendale police detective fatally shot a carjacking suspect who had knocked another detective to the ground during an encounter Friday at a Phoenix gas station, the Glendale Police Department said.
The suspect was reaching behind his back while positioned over the detective on the ground when the second detective shot the suspect, the statement said.
According to the statement, a gun was found near the suspect and the encounter occurred as the detectives tried to arrest the suspect.
The statement said the suspect had been driving a vehicle that was taken recently in a carjacking armed robery.
No identities were released.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety will investigate the incident, the Glendale police statement said.
