ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The Air Force Research Laboratory at Kirtland Air Force Base says some of its missions will soon come under control of the U.S. Space Force.

The laboratory announced Wednesday that its space vehicles directorate and a division dealing with electro-optics will soon answer to the Space Force, along with a telescope operation on Maui, Hawaii. Those units will not be moved from their current geographic locations, however.

The space vehicles directorate is among 23 units being transferred to the Space Force within the next three to six months. Other space-related missions could be moved under the Space Force later.
