ELDON, Mo. (AP) - An Eldon man who was shot and wounded by a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper was charged Wednesday after he allegedly held two people hostage and threw items including knives at law enforcement officers.
David Wallace, 34, was charged with two counts of first-degree kidnapping and three counts of second-degree assault. He was hospitalized after the shooting in Eldon.
Officers responded after receiving a call that Wallace was armed with knives and gasoline and was not allowing two people in the home to leave, KRCG reported.
A probable cause statement said officers tried several times to make contact with Wallace before he eventually came out of the house. He threatened to harm the hostages with knives and ignite the house with gasoline, according to the statement.
Officers eventually entered the house and confronted Wallace in his room, where he allegedly threw rocks and sharp objects at them.
A trooper fired at Wallace as the objects were being thrown, according to the statement. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation is continuing.
