LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Police in Georgia arrested a 19-year-old in the fatal shooting of two men 10 days after he was released from jail on drug charges, authorities said.
Steven Thanh Tran was charged with murder in the slayings of Julian Talbo, 20, and An Ha, 23, after they were found dead by a friend in a Lawrenceville-area home on Thursday, Gwinnett County Police said in a news release. Police added that the motive appears to be drug related.
Tran was arrested in February 2019 on a drug charge but avoided jail time through a pretrial diversion program, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
He was arrested again on April 6 after an officer in Cobb County found drugs in his car. According to the arrest warrant, Train told the officer that he was planning to sell the drugs to his friends before he was booked into county jail and released the next day. Police did not explain the circumstances leading to the officer finding drugs in Tran’s car.
He is being held without bond in a Gwinnett County jail. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had a lawyer to comment on his behalf.
