OPINION:
Know what we need? What is the global citizenry really calling out for?
Chicken soup for all our souls — the elixir for thousands and thousands of years.
From colds and flus to innumerable discomforts and the blues, chicken soup has been “prescribed” as a comfort food and a cure all.
Grandma’s soothing, tried and true, clear tasty broth chock-full of chunks of chicken.
We shouldn’t celebrate the beginning of the end. The COVID-19 pandemic is trying its best to do the job, considering none of the seven continents on God’s green Earth has been spared the ravages of COVID-19, and fingers crossed, Africa, North America and the five others will recover if we don’t stop the divisive tendencies.
Consider the addiction to labeling.
Americans act as though there are but two types of politicians, Republicans and Democrats. To wit: Notice how frequently the word “bipartisan” is used to describe legislation.
Ralph Nader (remember him?) and his bands of environmentally-green candidates have been damned. Independents aren’t given any respect. And libertarians? What’s a libertarian?
Nevermind. The battle is between two white guys: In the red trunks President Trump and the presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
And whoever writes the largest check between now and Election Day wins (unless, of course, the cosigner is a woman).
D.C. voters allowed themselves to be hoodwinked by both: A Republican who voted like a Democrat, and a Republican Party that acts like the Democratic Party, taking voting blocs for granted.
Pescatarians can eat much of what grows courtesy of God’s green Earth, what walks on His soil, which means no chicken soup for them. And vegetarians, with many consuming eggs and other dairy, generally speaking can be a mixed bag. Chicken-flavored broth with veggies. There’s not a chicken in every pot.
Adults are spending every spare dime and then some on four-legged Fido or Fifi, but can’t do the math when it comes to paying for their college tuition and their credit card balances. A spoiled lot, they’d love for great-grandma to make some of her delicious chicken soup and FedEx it to them. Whole Foods and Harris Teeter were all out.
There are tons of other labels.
Heterosexual vs. LGBT+ in the gender wars.
Young vs. old in the war against the invisible enemy, COVID-19.
African-American vs. everybody else.
Women (and girls) vs. men (and boys).
Lawyers vs. the law.
Law vs. disorder.
Minor Kardashian (Kourtney) vs. Kween Kardashian (Kim).
Those who wear classic leather Jordans vs. cloth Jordans fans who want to appease the don’t-wear-animal-skin crowds.
The dissension is trying to rule our roost.
So, how about some chicken soup.
Some chicken soup to soothe our souls. When eaten properly, you should take in a spoonful slowly to make sure you take in every flavor and every taste.
That chicken soup variations are available around the globe is no coincidence. (Wink.)
