PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) - A video showing a Nazareth College student in blackface will be investigated by the student conduct hearing board to determine what action will be taken, school officials said.

President Daan Braveman sent a letter to students, staff, and faculty Monday in which he called the video “offensive” and “troubling.”

The school does not need “further divisions created by intolerance, ignorance, or racism” during the coronavirus health crisis, Braveman wrote in a statement Tuesday.

“The history of blackface is rooted in racism, which has no place on our campus,” Braveman said. “I understand and share your anger and disgust.”

The student conduct board will still hold a hearing about the video even though classes are canceled at the Pittsford campus, the Democrat & Chronicle reported.
