LORMAN, Miss. (AP) - Alcorn State University’s president of its Student Government Association has been arrested on gun and drug charges.
The Vicksburg Post reports James Stirgus III faces charges of possession of a firearm and a controlled substance. He was transported, following his arrest Thursday, to the Claiborne County Jail, where he posted a $10,000 bond and was released. It was unknown if he’s represented by an attorney.
The campus police department has not released any other details.
Stirgus, a business finance major, was elected the 2019-2020 SGA president in March.
The university, in a statement, said Stirgus has been placed on interim suspension pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing.
