LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - An Arkansas man who previously worked for Veterans Affairs has pleaded guilty to charges that he offered to sell the personal data of veterans and their families in exchange for $100,000.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported that 33-year-old Phillip Keith Hill of Benton pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to attempted trafficking of Social Security numbers and other identifiable information.
Two other charges were dropped in exchange for his plea.
Authorities say Hill was a former database administrator at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in North Little Rock. They say in 2017 he told an informant for the VA’s Office of Inspector General that the information “would be particularly valuable to identity thieves.”
He was fired that year for poor performance and arrested about two weeks later.
Hill will be sentenced later and faces up to 10 years in prison.
